Who inspired your love of literacy and why? My love of literacy was sparked by my cousin Cindy and her partner Mary. Cindy was a Sociology Professor at Seton Hall University and Mary was a professor of Political Science. When I was young, they inspired me to be a good student, taught me about equality, and stressed the significance of a college degree. I will always remember and cherish the day we took a trip to the Bloomfield Public Library for my first library card. I went home with a small suitcase filled with books and read them all in one week!
What was your favorite childhood book? Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
What inspires you to support literacy? I am inspired by the wonderful educators and children in our community. Whenever I visit a school and see Reading Rescue in action I know we are doing purposeful work. Watching Instructors and students engaging in a book and completing word study makes my day!
What is your favorite literary hobby? My favorite literary hobby is being a part of book clubs! I recently started one in my local community. It's a great way to combine two of my favorite things: books and people!
What makes Literacy Trust special to you? Literacy Trust is special to me because we are resourceful and collaborative. We are not a for profit organization looking to make dividends for shareholders. We are more than a program in a box with an instruction manual. We individualize our support and operate as true partners.
