Last two professional locations and titles: From 2015-2017, I was an AmeriCorps Member/Reading Rescue Instructor at PS 194 M in Harlem, NY. Prior to 2015, I was a retail manager in Connecticut.
Who inspired your love of literacy and why? My mom, who always has a book in her hands! She would read to me every night and would bring me to the library each week to pick out new books to read.
What was your favorite childhood book? There are so many! But, what sticks out in my mind is the Little House on the Prairie series. My mom began reading the series to me when I was young and as I got older, she would have me read them to her instead. We read the entire series together.
What inspires you to support literacy? What inspires me to support literacy is the impact I saw as a Reading Rescue Instructor for two years. The kids I taught illustrated how learning to read can change a child's outlook on life and herself.
What is your favorite literary hobby? Visiting the local library and reading each night before bed.
What makes Literacy Trust special to you? Literacy Trust is special to me because I had the opportunity to see our program in action as a Reading Rescue Instructor. As an AmeriCorps member hosted by Literacy Trust for two years, I not only learned how to teach children to read, but strengthened valuable professional skills and figured out where my career would lead next.
