Reading Rescue Program:
Implementation

The Literacy Trust requires three years for professional development and program implementation. After the five-day initial training, one-day follow-ups for all tutors are critically spaced over the three-year period. Additionally, the Reading Rescue Coordinator/Literacy Coach from each school site is required to attend five-day Summer Institutes at the conclusion of each school year during the three-year agreement period.
Methodologies used for all training and professional development activities minimize the use of lectures and emphasize experiential, hands-on learning approaches such as:

  • Small groups
  • Large group discussions
  • Pairs and Triad activities
  • Role plays
  • Practice sessions
  • Videotapes of actual tutoring sessions

Implementation of the program is accomplished by school personnel with technical support from The Literacy Trust, Inc. Click here for a chart outlining the three-year Reading Rescue professional development sequence.
